MICROCOSM DISTRIBUTION IS DEAD! INTRODUCING PIONEERS PRESS - PUBLISHING HOUSE AND SMALL-PRESS DISTRO!
|
 |
|
That’s right, gang! We’re kicking that shit to the curb!
In case you didn't hear, on August 1, 2012, former Microcosm Publishing collective members broke away from that organization to form the new and completely autonomous Microcosm Distribution. When we initially split we wanted to keep the “Microcosm” name, as a way to own up to our mistakes and to celebrate and honor all the hard work we and past Microcosm staffers put into the organization. We wanted to make the “Microcosm” name something we could be proud of again. Sharing the “Microcosm” name has been terribly problematic, and the daily reminder of our history with Microcosm has become less of a celebration of moving on and more of a trigger for stress and disappointment. Most importantly though, we don’t want to be associated with a company that doesn’t share our ethics, and we don’t want our using the
“Microcosm” name to give the false impression that we in any way support Microcosm Publishing. So to hell with “taking back” Microcosm. WE ARE PIONEERS PRESS!
The newly-launched Pioneers Press is an independent publishing house and small-press distro located on the Hard Fifty Farm in Northeast Kansas. Our focus is on survival and sustainability from the farm to the city, in addition to health, gender, sexuality, and DIY and cruelty-free lifestyles. Our first published titles will be released this spring, and we have a great 2013-2014 lineup with releases from Will Potter (Green is the New Red), Adam Gnade (Hymn California, The DIY Guide to Fighting the Big Motherfuckin' Sad), Bart Schaneman (Trans-Siberian, The Green and the Gold), Jessie Duke (The Hard Fifty Farm), April Johnson Stearns (I [Heart] My Life), and more.
Pioneers Press is officially accepting manuscripts for publishing consideration, and finished titles for distribution consideration. We're also looking for artists to work with to develop new designs. For information on our submission process please visit our website. http://pioneerspress.com/faq
While our first published titles are still in the works, our distro website is already alive and kickin' with hundreds of books, zines, patches, t-shirts, stickers, buttons, posters, Slingshot organizers, and lots of other fun stuff. We're committed to supporting and nurturing small press artists and authors and doing our part to help legitimize small press, zine, and self publishing. We're honored to be part of the independent publishing community and are excited for the future of Pioneers Press!
If you have any questions, please drop us a line (jessie@pioneerspress.com) and say hey!
-Jessie Duke, Thaddeus Christian, Rio Safari, Adam Gnade
P.S. Your Microcosm Distribution account log-ins will still work on the new Pioneers Press website, so your order history and Wishlists are safe and sound!

All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues
by Julia Eff From the author of Every Thug is a Lady, Julia Eff's All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues is a wild run through a harrowing, darkly funny, oft-times crushing/devastating adolescence. This beautifully illustrated zine is something you'll keep forever. For serious, dudes: All The Best Cowboys is pretty damn outstanding. One of the best things we've read all year!

Every Thug Is A Lady: Adventures Without Gender
by Julia Eff Julia Eff's 68 page Every Thug is a Lady begins with a co-opting of a Jay-Z quote: "I've got 99 problems but a gender ain't one." Julia's zine deals with the concept of "neutrois," in which an individual has no gender and does not identify as either male or female. Says Julia, "Many have gender dysphoria very much like that of trans people. It is often denoted with the 'null' symbol meaning 'empty set.'"
